The Power of Music

Every season Modström celebrates strong and passionate women, who dare to think differently and feel joy about what they do. With our new campaign: ‘The Power of Music’ we are proud to pass the microphone to five inspiring, emerging artists, to talk about their experiences in the music industry and their hopes for the future.

NikoCorlin

The power of music

Who are you and what's your project?

My name is Nikoline Corlin. I’m 24 and I make music as NikoCorlin. I’ve always written songs and had music with me through all walks of life. In my early twenties, I decided to try it out professionally. The project took off in 2021 and by 2022 I released my debut album: 'Ocean Thread'. My music feels like a mix of pop, folk & rock - Some might call it indie-pop. I want to challenge the definitions of genres a bit, ‘cause I have this idea that it fucks with the industry if they don’t know what box to put you in. I like that.

Why do you make music?

For me it’s the wildest place to go - It’s a private space where anything can happen. I had a very lively imagination and continued to play until I was quite old. Making music kind of reminds me of that phase. I feel like anything can happen, and for me, that’s such a fun space to be in. I make music because it opens my world and makes it grander. It allows me to feel a connection between people, and at the end of the day, I think that’s what I’m looking for.

3 words to describe your music:

It’s diverse, emotional, and insistent.

Kamma

The power of music

Who are you and what's your project?

My name is Kamma. I’m a songwriter, vocalist, and producer - I’m also the driving force behind all aesthetic and creative choices in my project.

Why are you making music?

I use music as a very therapeutic space. It allows me to deal with difficult and heavy emotions. I use that in my songs too. Often my own story gets intertwined with experiences and stories I hear from my friends. I have to face the seriousness and hardship of life to be able to dive into it creatively. Whether that’s positive, negative, or feels impossible. It’s a challenging space for me to be in, but it's also where I push myself.

What’s your biggest wish for your music?

My biggest wish for my music is to be seen and heard as both grand and vulnerable. That what I create can be something meaningful to someone else. I am on a journey to trust my creative compass and I hope that being true to myself will resonate with others.

Any good advice for young musicians?

Keep writing!!! Practice a lot, and reach out to people you admire or dream of working with. It shouldn’t be shameful to dream big. And remember that every time things don't go as planned, it allows you to gain new perspectives. Even though it hurts like hell!

My name is Sofie, and I was born in 1998 - That’s why I use Sofie1998. Sofie1998 is a very new solo project - I've only released one song: 'FOR X', which I entered into a talent competition called: 'Karrierekanonen'. Everything about this project is personal - I write, record and produce the songs in my bedroom, and I generously share my emotions in the music.

I make music because it’s always been so mcuh fun for me. It feels like I’m doing exactly what I’m supposed to be doing. I feel lucky, ‘cause I have the resources to make it happen.

What’s your biggest wish for your music?

I really hope my music will be meaningful for someone else - like other artists' music is meaningful to me.

Any good advice for new musicians?

I wasted so many years trying to be avant-garde and make experimental music. At one point I realized that I should simply make the music I want to listen to. So my best advice would be to make the music you want to hear! It’s such a high working on songs that you really dig!
