Modström is NICE

May 10, 2012 in

On May 3 the big Fashion Summit 2012 took place in The Copenhagen Opera House. The Fashion Summit is a part of NICE (The Nordic Initiative Clean and Ethical), which is a joint commitment whose main purpose is to raise awareness and share practices within responsible and sustainable business methods.

At Modström we are trying to be NICE by for instance requiring our suppliers to follow our Code of Conduct, which secures that our colleagues at the fabrics in China are being treated with respect and are having responsible working conditions. Furthermore taking care of the environment is also very important to us, and in our everyday we are trying to protect it as much as possible. But you can always become more NICE and therefore the fashion industry must get together and debate on this subject, which The Fashion Summit is all about.

To get new ideas on how to be more social responsible and sustainable we need to share our knowledge in the industry and get inspired by other textile companies' initiatives and ideas. Therefore Modström participated in the Fashion Summit, where around 600 people from the fashion industry were gathered to share sustainable knowledge and ideas. We immediately got the feeling of the Fashion industry really standing together in the issue of making this branch more environmentally and socially responsible, and were left with creative ideas that we will take into Modström.

Among the inspiring speakers were first of all Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Mary. Furthermore Helena Helmersen, head of Sustainability at H&M, Rosella Ravagli, Environmental Responsibility manager at Gucci, Søren Petersen, head of networks for United Nations Global Compact.

In total 7 people from the fashion industry and textile and designer schools shared their knowhow and initiatives of being social responsible. The ideas were creative, such as making design multifunctional, using recycled materials, seeing the possibility in using organic hemp for clothing and reducing chemicals. The day ended with a runway show, showing styles made of different sustainable and innovative textiles.
In the end of the day the most important thing is to enlighten YOU in how to think NICE and expecting your favorite brands to take action when it comes to social responsibility!
Let's be NICE together....
